(LOS ANGELES, CA) – Open Mind Art Space is pleased to present Obliterate, a solo exhibition featuring abstract sculptures and collages by Los Angeles-based artist, Andre Yi. An opening reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM. The exhibition will be on view from September 29th through October 26th, 2018.

Andre Yi creates sculptures and collages inspired by urban sprawl, and its impact on the natural environment. As society moves forward, it’s structures and developments are less and less in tune with the nature that surrounds them. As a critique, Yi uses what he collects from his immediate surroundings as opposed to fabricating his work from specific materials. Cast off products like tape, twigs, paper trimmings, old drawings, pencil shavings, and paint comprise these pieces. Choosing to let the materials maintain their integrity, Yi does little to alter them. Even the paint is left unmixed, as he found it. However, within these complex structures, you will also find small pieces of faux painted wood, a small moment of simulacra that reflects upon our desire to recreate nature, even as we destroy it. Much like a bird that creates a nest with mylar, hair, and plastics; the building blocks that create our human landscapes obliterates our natural environment with each passing year.
