Close to Home: Recent Acquisitions from the Permanent Collection MCASD

Close to Home features works on paper from MCASD’s collection acquired in the last four years. The exhibition showcases the collection’s depth and range with works by artists such as Faiya Fredman, Mauro Staccioli, and John Baldessari.

Highlighting the Museum’s commitment to artistic practice, the exhibition emphasizes the relationship between purely enjoying art and using an investigative eye. Each piece asks the viewer not to be complacent in consumption of images but critically interact with them. The exhibition follows a progression of redefining common ideas about portraiture, American culture, inhabited space, and the beauty of nature. Whether it is an alternative concept of American lifestyle, as seen in Alexis Smith’s work, or spatial configuration, like the pieces by Yunhee Min, we are asked to critically examine the individual ideas we often hold so close to home.
